Description

Delicious and spooky Black Poison Swirl Candy Apples perfect for Halloween or any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or your choice)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon food coloring (black)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Wooden sticks or skewers
  • Parchment paper for cooling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly and dry them completely. Insert wooden sticks into the tops of each apple, ensuring they are secured.
  2. Line a Baking Sheet: Place parchment paper on a baking sheet to catch any drips during the cooling process.
  3. Cook the Sugar Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Add Coloring and Flavor: Once the sugar mixture reaches a boil, add in the black food coloring and vanilla extract. Allow it to reach the hard crack stage (approximately 300°F or 149°C), which takes about 10–15 minutes without stirring.
  5. Create the Swirl Effect: Remove the saucepan from heat, then quickly stir in the baking soda. This will cause the mixture to bubble. While it’s still warm and runny, dip the apples into the candy coating, ensuring they’re evenly covered, and then swirl them to create a marbled effect.
  6. Cool the Apples: Carefully place the dipped apples on the prepared parchment paper to cool. Make sure they are not touching each other to prevent sticking.
  7. Allow to Set: Let the candy coating harden for at least 30 minutes before serving or packaging.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry for the candy coating to stick properly.
  • Be cautious when working with hot sugar syrup.
  • Experiment with different food colorings for varied effects.
