Description
Chopped Cheese Burritos are a delicious twist on traditional burritos, featuring seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and fresh toppings wrapped in a flour tortilla.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 large flour tortillas (burrito size)
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 4 slices American cheese (or substitute cheddar or pepper jack)
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- Optional additions: hot sauce, pickles, jalapeños, grilled onions, avocado
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté for 2–3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until browned, chopping and mashing the beef into small pieces.
- Once the beef is fully cooked and chopped, reduce heat to low. Lay cheese slices over the top and let them melt into the meat, stirring gently.
- In a small bowl, mix mayo and ketchup, adding hot sauce or mustard if desired.
- Warm the tortillas slightly, spread sauce onto each, add beef & cheese mixture, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and optional toppings. Fold in the sides, then roll tightly.
- For extra crunch, place the burritos seam-side down on a hot skillet or griddle for 1–2 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
Notes
- For a spicier burrito, consider adding jalapeños or hot sauce.
- Experiment with different types of cheese according to your preference.
- These burritos can be served with additional toppings such as avocado or pickles.
