Description
A dramatic glowing science craft that captures the energy of thunder and lightning inside a jar — glowing, sparking, and stormy!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear glass jar with lid
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or baby oil for clarity)
- A few drops of blue or purple food coloring
- 1 teaspoon glow-in-the-dark paint or glowing powder (non-toxic)
- 1 teaspoon silver or holographic glitter (for thunder sparks)
- Small LED tea light or flashlight
Instructions
- Prepare the Storm Water: In a bowl, mix the water with a few drops of food coloring. Stir until blended.
- Add Glow Power: Mix in glow-in-the-dark paint or glowing powder for a stormy glow effect.
- Fill the Jar: Pour the glowing water into the jar until it’s halfway full.
- Create the Storm: Slowly pour in the oil until nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
- Add Thunder Sparks: Sprinkle in glitter for lightning-like sparkles.
- Light It Up: Place an LED tea light or flashlight underneath or behind the jar in a dark room to mimic glowing thunder.
- Shake the Jar: Gently shake or swirl the jar to see glowing thunderclouds and storm sparks dance inside.
Notes
- Charged Glow: Let the glow paint or powder charge under a bright light before use.
- Storm Styles: Shake gently for rolling thunderclouds, or fast for a wild lightning storm.
- Extra Effect: Combine both blue and purple coloring for a realistic stormy night sky.
