Ingredients
Scale
- 1 clear glass jar with lid
- Water (enough to fill about 3/4 of the jar)
- Vegetable oil (enough to fill the rest of the jar)
- Glow-in-the-dark paint or glow sticks (non-toxic)
- Blue and purple food coloring
- Alka-Seltzer tablets or fizzing tablets
- Small funnel (optional)
- Spoon or craft stick for mixing
Instructions
- Fill the Jar: Pour water into the jar until it’s about three-quarters full. Add a few drops of blue and purple food coloring.
- Add Vegetable Oil: Slowly pour vegetable oil into the jar until nearly full. Let the liquids settle and separate.
- Add Glow: Mix in glow-in-the-dark paint or carefully add liquid from glow sticks. Stir gently to distribute glow.
- Create the Storm: Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into small pieces and drop one into the jar. Watch glowing bubbles rise and fall, creating a stormy effect.
- Repeat: Add more tablet pieces as needed for continuous glowing storms.

- Use a Blacklight: Enhance the glowing effect by placing the jar under a blacklight.
- Seal Securely: Glue or tape the lid shut if children will handle the jar.
