Create a stunning glow with this easy and fun glowing fireworks in a jar project!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 clear glass or plastic jar with lid
  • Warm water (enough to fill ¾ of the jar)
  • 23 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint (washable, non-toxic recommended)
  • Food coloring (optional, for added color bursts)
  • Fork or toothpick (for mixing)
  • Small bowl

Instructions

  1. Pour warm water into the jar until it’s about ¾ full.
  2. In a small bowl, add 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  3. Drop in small amounts of glow-in-the-dark paint and food coloring (if using).
  4. Stir gently with a fork or toothpick—don’t overmix!
  5. Slowly pour the oil and paint mixture into the jar of warm water.
  6. Wait a few moments and watch as the colorful droplets float, fall, and “burst” like glowing fireworks!
  7. Turn off the lights to enjoy the glow!
  8. Charge the glow paint under a lamp or expose the jar to blacklight to intensify the effect.

Notes

  • Use different glow paint colors to simulate a full fireworks display.
  • Add glitter or tiny glow stars for extra sparkle.
  • Try layering colors by pouring in different mixes one at a time.
