Description
Hot Honey Feta Chicken is a delicious dish that combines spicy honey sauce with tender chicken and creamy feta cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1½ lbs (680g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ cup honey
- 1–2 teaspoons chili flakes (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
- 1 garlic clove, finely minced
- Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat
- ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
- Fresh parsley or mint, chopped
- Lemon zest or juice
- Toasted sesame seeds or crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Pat the chicken dry and place in a bowl or on a tray. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, then rub in paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Let marinate briefly (10–15 minutes), or up to 1 hour in the fridge for deeper flavor.
- For stovetop method, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a splash of oil. Sear chicken on each side for 5–6 minutes (thighs) or 4–5 minutes (breasts), until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and keep warm. For oven-baked method, preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange seasoned chicken in a baking dish and drizzle with a bit of oil. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).
- In a small saucepan, combine honey, chili flakes, butter/olive oil, garlic, and vinegar. Heat gently over low-medium heat for 2–3 minutes until bubbly and fragrant. Taste and adjust heat with more chili flakes or a pinch of cayenne if desired.
- Pour hot honey sauce over the cooked chicken. Sprinkle crumbled feta generously over the top. Let sit for a few minutes so the feta begins to soften or melt slightly from the warmth. Garnish with parsley or mint, lemon zest, and optional sesame seeds or chili flakes.
- Plate chicken with a generous spoon of sauce and melted feta. Serve with side dishes like roasted potatoes, rice pilaf, couscous, or flatbreads. Spoon leftover hot honey sauce over vegetables or grains for added flavor.
Notes
- Adjust spice level to your preference by varying the amount of chili flakes.
