Description

A delicious and low-carb dish featuring shrimp and sausage stuffed into cabbage bowls, seasoned with Cajun spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium green cabbages
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 12 oz smoked sausage — use turkey, chicken, or beef sausage or what you like
  • ½ lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup diced red and green bell peppers
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or bacon-fat alternative
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar (optional for extra creaminess)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage Bowls: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the tops off both cabbages and carefully hollow out the centers to create space for stuffing. Rub the inside of each cabbage with oil, salt, and pepper. Set them into a baking dish.
  2. Cook the Filling: Heat olive oil (or substitute) in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion, peppers, and garlic until softened. Add the sausage slices and cook until browned. Stir in the shrimp along with Cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Cook 2–3 minutes, until the shrimp turn pink.
  3. Stuff the Cabbage: Spoon the shrimp and sausage mixture evenly into each cored cabbage. Add cheese inside the cabbage if using.
  4. Bake: Cover loosely with foil and bake 40–50 minutes, until the cabbage softens. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes to develop a roasted finish.
  5. Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired. Slice the cabbage bowls into wedges and serve hot.
