Description

A decadent chocolate cake that is incredibly moist and rich, topped with a luscious fudge frosting.


Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)
  • Optional Garnish: Chocolate shavings, fresh berries (raspberries, strawberries), chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until emulsified.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  5. Carefully pour in the boiling water and mix on low speed until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
