Description
A refreshing and creamy mint chocolate chip ice cream that combines the cool flavor of mint with rich chocolate chunks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon mint extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon green food coloring (optional)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar until smooth and sugar is dissolved.
- Add the mint extract, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir well. If using, add food coloring and mix until the color is even.
- Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until completely cold.
- Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (about 20–25 minutes) until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- During the last 5 minutes of churning, add the chocolate chunks or mini chocolate chips so they are evenly incorporated.
- Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container, smoothing the top. Press parchment paper directly onto the surface of the ice cream.
- Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until the ice cream is firm and scoopable.
- Let the ice cream soften slightly before scooping and serving.
Notes
- For a more intense mint flavor, increase the mint extract.
- Homemade ice cream can be stored in the freezer for up to two weeks.
