Description

Missouri Casserole is a comforting family dinner dish, layered with ground beef, pasta, and cheeses, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers (red or yellow)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 12 ounces egg noodles or rotini, cooked al dente
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
  2. Add chopped onion, bell peppers, and garlic. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes on low heat.
  4. Meanwhile, cook pasta in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Add a layer of pasta, then a layer of cheese. Repeat layers, ending with cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
