Description

Delicious and flavorful southwest turkey burgers that everyone will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp chili powder (for the sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (for the sauce)
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (for the sauce)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for the sauce)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 4 leaves of lettuce
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 white onion, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, avoiding overworking the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties approximately 1cm thick. Create a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking.
  3. Place formed patties on a plate and refrigerate for 30 minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape during cooking.
  4. Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 5-7 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 74°C (165°F) and are no longer pink in the center.
  5. While patties cook, combine mayonnaise, lime juice, chopped cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Stir until well integrated.
  6. Place burger buns cut-side down on the grill or in a skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  7. Spread southwest sauce on the bottom bun, then layer with cooked turkey patty, avocado slices, tomato, lettuce, and onion. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make sure to not overwork the turkey meat to keep the patties tender.
  • You can adjust the heat by modifying the cayenne pepper amount.
  • Feel free to add cheese or any other toppings you prefer.
  • These burgers can be made ahead and frozen for later use.
