Delicious pretzels filled with steak and cheese that offer a mouthwatering experience.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tsp sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp instant dry yeast
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅔ cup warm water
- 2 Tbsp baking soda
- 1 cup boiling water
- 6 oz Cabot Vermont Extra Sharp Cheddar cheese, cut into ½” cubes
- 14 oz fully cooked shaved steak
- 8 oz Cabot Monterey Jack cheese, cut into ½” cubes
- 1 Tbsp melted unsalted butter
- ½ Tbsp pretzel salt or kosher salt
Instructions
- Toss all-purpose flour, sugar, softened butter, salt, onion powder, yeast, and warm water into a stand mixer with the dough hook. Set it to medium and let it knead for 5 minutes.
- Coat a bowl with oil and move the dough into it. Cover it and let it sit out on the counter for about 45 minutes.
- In a bowl, stir together boiling water and baking soda until the baking soda’s completely dissolved. Leave it to cool down.
- Cook the steak and cut the cheeses into cubes while your dough is rising.
- When the dough’s done rising, divide it into 12 parts. Flatten each piece into a 3×5 inch shape, fill with bits of steak and cheese cubes, then fold up the bottom, tuck in the sides, and pinch the seams to close.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Pour the baking soda solution into a dish. Dip each pretzel in so it’s fully coated and let it soak for 2 minutes.
- Spray a baking pan generously with non-stick cooking spray. Carefully move the pretzels onto the pan.
- Sprinkle coarse salt over the pretzels and leave them uncovered for 10 minutes before baking.
- Bake for around 11 to 13 minutes until the tops are beautifully golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, brush melted butter on top of the pretzels and serve them warm.
Notes
- For a stronger cheese flavor, consider mixing different types of cheese.
- Ensure the baking soda solution is well dissolved before dipping the pretzels.
- Serving a side of mustard or cheese sauce for dipping can enhance the meal.
