Description
A delicious and flaky strawberry danish filled with cream cheese and topped with fresh strawberries and a sweet glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- lemon zest of one lemon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 17.25 ounces puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 16 teaspoons strawberry jam, divided
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 16 strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sugar, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Beat until completely combined and set aside.
- Lay out a sheet of puff pastry and gently roll it out to remove creases. Cut the sheet lengthwise into strips one inch thick. Repeat with the second sheet.
- Pick up a strip with one end in each hand, twist opposite ways to form a loose ribbon, and coil it around itself to create a round shape. Repeat with the remaining strips.
- Transfer the pastry rounds onto two baking sheets, leaving a small amount of space in between.
- Refrigerate the baking sheets for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Remove the chilled pastry from the refrigerator. Press a groove into the center of each pastry with your thumb and prick it with a fork.
- Brush the pastry with the egg wash, avoiding the very center. Add half a teaspoon of jam to the center of each pastry.
- Add one scant tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture on top of the jam, followed by another half teaspoon of jam on top of the cream cheese mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18 minutes or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Remove from the oven.
- For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until smooth. Adjust consistency as needed.
- Add the sliced strawberries on top of each danish pastry.
- Pour the glaze over the top. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing.
- Feel free to substitute the strawberry jam with other fruit jams if desired.
- For a richer flavor, use heavy cream in the glaze.
