Description

A delicious and sweet twist on traditional French toast, baked to golden perfection and topped with a maple pecan syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups (180 g) heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 loaf (12 ounces) French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ¾ cup toasted pecans, chopped
  • ½ cup maple syrup (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Whisk the eggs, whipping cream, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until the brown sugar has dissolved.
  4. Pour 1 cup of the egg mixture into the greased baking dish.
  5. Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture in the baking dish.
  6. Pour the remaining egg mixture evenly over the bread.
  7. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
  8. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  9. Mix in the brown sugar and maple syrup, stirring until smooth.
  10. Bring the syrup mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and let simmer for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  11. Add the toasted pecans to the syrup mixture, and spoon the maple pecan syrup over the chilled French toast and mix it all together.
  12. Bake the casserole for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Top with maple syrup.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use fresh bread over the stale bread.
  • Let the mixture sit overnight for deeper flavor infusion.
  • Adjust syrup quantities according to taste preference.
