Description

A flavorful twist on traditional Sloppy Joes using Italian sausage and marinara sauce served on garlic toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Cooking oil of choice
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Italian seasoning, to taste
  • 2 to 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 8 to 10 slices frozen garlic toast
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: parmesan cheese, basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the griddle to medium heat for several minutes. Add some cooking oil, the sausage, onion, kosher salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes, breaking apart the sausage with hibachi spatulas as it cooks.
  2. Add the marinara sauce and mix together for a minute or two. Remove with your hibachi spatulas and place on a tray or in a bowl.
  3. Scrape the griddle if needed and lower the heat to low. Place the garlic toast on the griddle for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until crisped how you prefer.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella on each piece of garlic toast and once melted, serve with the Italian sausage mixture over top like an open face Sloppy Joe. Garnish with parmesan cheese and basil if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of marinara sauce based on your preferred sauciness level.
  • Feel free to add other toppings such as jalapeños or crushed red pepper for extra heat.
  • May substitute regular bread for garlic toast if desired.
