Description

Indulge in the sweet and spicy flavors of fall with these Caramel Apple Cider Donuts, perfect for a cozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1.5 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1 tablespoon apple pie spice, divided
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups fresh apple cider
  • 1 jar (12-ounce) caramel sauce, good-quality
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, melted
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 teaspoons apple pie spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 12-cavity donut pans.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine apple cider, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon apple pie spice. Bring to a boil, then simmer until reduced to 1 ½ cups, about 20-30 minutes. Let cool.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons apple pie spice.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking until just combined. Stir in cooled apple cider.
  6. Transfer batter to a piping bag and pipe into donut cavities, filling 3/4 full.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden. Cool in pans for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Fill a piping bag with caramel sauce. Inject caramel into the sides of each donut.
  9. Melt butter in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon, and apple pie spice. Dunk each donut in melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until coated.

Notes

  • Ensure the cider is completely reduced for maximum flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts fluffy.
  • Check doneness at 12 minutes to avoid overbaking.
