Description

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 cups of whole milk
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pre-baked pie crust
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Add 2 cups of milk and whisk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the remaining 2 cups of milk.
  5. Slowly add the egg mixture to the thickened mixture and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the filling into the pre-baked pie crust and let cool.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.
  9. Top with whipped cream before serving, if desired.
