- 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
- 1/3 cup of cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 4 cups of whole milk
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
- 1 pre-baked pie crust
- Whipped cream for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Add 2 cups of milk and whisk until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the remaining 2 cups of milk.
- Slowly add the egg mixture to the thickened mixture and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
- Pour the filling into the pre-baked pie crust and let cool.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.
- Top with whipped cream before serving, if desired.
