Description

A delicious recipe for Ham and Cheese Butter Biscuits, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 310 grams all-purpose flour
  • 13 grams granulated sugar
  • 13 grams aluminum-free baking powder
  • 415 milliliters buttermilk, plus more as needed
  • 250 grams small diced ham
  • 170 grams shredded cheddar cheese
  • 115 grams salted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 230°C. Coat a 23×23-centimeter oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray containing flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and baking powder until evenly blended.
  3. Pour buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a thick, sticky batter forms. If the mixture appears dry, incorporate additional buttermilk in small increments.
  4. Gently fold diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese into the batter until well distributed.
  5. Melt salted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
  6. Spread the dough evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish, using hands sprayed with nonstick spray for ease.
  7. Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares to assist with portioning after baking.
  8. Place the dish on the middle oven rack and bake for 25–30 minutes, rotating halfway through for even browning. Shield with foil if top browns too quickly.
  9. Biscuits are ready when golden on top and spring back when gently pressed. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean. Cut along scored lines and serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is well melted for even distribution in the baking dish.
  • For a lighter texture, do not overmix the batter after adding the buttermilk.
  • These biscuits can be served as a snack or a side dish with meals.
