Description

Sweet Cream Cheese Wontons are a delightful dessert with a creamy filling wrapped in crispy wontons, easy to make and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. softened cream cheese
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 oz. wonton wraps
  • 1 egg, whisked with a splash of water
  • 48 oz. canola oil (for frying)
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray (for baking)

Instructions

  1. Mix the powdered sugar and cream cheese together until well combined.
  2. Lay out about 4 wontons at a time and cover the remaining with a dish towel.
  3. Fill a small bowl with water and set it near the wontons.
  4. Place about a ½ teaspoon of cream cheese mixture in the middle of each wonton.
  5. Dip your fingers into the whisked egg/water mixture and fold the wontons diagonally to form a triangle. Seal and ensure that there are no air bubbles.
  6. Dip your fingers back into the water and fold the left side to the right, then fold the left side over it, to the right.
  7. Repeat until all wontons are filled and wrapped.
  8. To Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a dutch oven until just under 350 degrees. Test the temperature using an extra wonton wrapper.
  9. Fry 4-5 wontons at a time for about 45 seconds to a minute until golden brown. Place on a plate lined with paper towels to cool.
  10. To Bake: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and heat in the oven for about 5 minutes.
  11. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, place the wontons on top, and coat lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
  12. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, checking after 5 minutes. Remove from the oven when crisp and golden brown.
  13. To Air Fry: Brush each wonton lightly with oil and air fry at 370 degrees for 7-8 minutes until browned and crispy.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overfill the wontons to prevent them from bursting while cooking.
  • Adjust frying time based on the size of the wontons and your specific fryer.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
